On September 7th, 2005, 24 Middle and
Senior
High School students and sponsors
pitched in to fill 300 "Care Kits" for
the American Red Cross.
As the American Red Cross in Wichita, KS
prepared for the arrival of people displaced by Hurricane Katrina they
discovered they had a shortage of "Care Kits" to give to victims of
disaster.
Each kit contains basic toiletry items.
The youth and sponsors received generous
donations of soap, shampoo, toothpaste
and other such items from hotels
in the Wichita area.
Wash clothes, razors, toothbrushes and
combs that had been purchased by money
donated by members of Meridian Avenue
Baptist Church were also added.
By working together the group was able
to assemble all 300 care kits in
one half-hour.
