On November
6, 2005 eleven men departed
from Meridian
Avenue Baptist Church for
Sulpher,
Mississippi.
During a
brief stop in Oklahoma the group was joined by three men and one
woman,
increasing the work team to
fifteen.
The group joined other volunteers
who were staying at the First
Baptist Church of Sulpher, LA. The
church had converted their Sunday
School classrooms into sleeping rooms
and their Gym into a dining hall.
Volunteers were coming and going at
different times during the week. At
any time about 75 volunteers were
staying at First Baptist Church.
First Baptist Church of Sulpher had
received major damage to four of their
five buildings. They had made
temporary repairs and were able
to use all but one of their
buildings.
Our work team was given two homes
to work on so they divided into two
teams.
One home was in need of a new roof,
having a large tree removed from their
yard, water damage inside cleaned up
and a fence in need of being rebuilt.
Ten members of the group took this
project as theirs.
The remaining five members worked on
the second home which had a large tree
fall across the garage and the rear
of the house. They removed a lot of
wet papers, books and furniture. Tore
out wet sheetrock and insulation.
Replaced some sheetrock and closed off
the damaged part of the house making
it more comfortable for the woman
who lived there.
The work team returned home on
November 12th,
tired but
feeling good knowing they had done what they could
to help those in need
in the name of
the LORD.
